One Person's Choice:
Twenty-five years ago I was a college student, single, pregnant and scared to death. On the day before Thanksgiving, I walked into an abortion clinic to exercise my "right to choose" given to me by our U.S. Supreme Court. A couple hours later I walked out of that clinic a very different person. I had no idea that the decision I had just made would have such far-reaching consequences for my life. I was sure that the old adage, "Time heals all wounds" would prove true. I honestly believed I could actually forget the abortion ever happened and just get on with my life and my career. I was wrong!
For many years I carried my secret, so careful to cover it up along with its heavy load of grief, guilt, shame and self-condemnation. I felt so alone and worthless. I would do anything I could to prevent anyone else from going through what I had experienced, but how? After hearing about Gainesville Care Center I felt that that would be a place where I could go to help girls finding themselves in crisis pregnancies to make better decisions than I had made. I contacted Gainesville Care Center and told them of my desire to volunteer. When I told them my story, they said I first needed to take a class for women who had been through an abortion. It's called "Forgive and Set Free." I never knew such a class existed. Here's where I found the healing that I needed - in the Word of God, Who is the only source of true healing, and in sharing with other women who had gone through what I had and understood. It was wonderful to be able to come to a place where I could feel safe sharing my feelings, knowing that everything we discussed would be held in the strictest of confidence! I am so grateful for the class and for those who helped lead me through it. I now consider it such a privilege to lead the P.A.S.T. (post-abortion support and treatment) class. It is definitely life-changing!
What Others Say:
"Last summer a friend brought me to GCC because I was in a crisis pregnancy. I wanted to abort my baby but the information I received that day helped me to make a different choice.
I went to the abortion clinic but could not go through with the abortion. So I decided to come back to GCC for more info on adoption. I am so glad GCC is here, because there are some things family and friends just don't understand. Anonymous
